Field Notes
I have a habit of noticing things, imagining how they could be better, and then questioning whether my first instinct was right.
Sometimes it starts with a frightened horse, a demanding baby, or a neglected garden. Ordinary encounters have a way of revealing extraordinary questions about behavior, motivation, and the assumptions we rarely think to challenge.
These are some of those observations.
-
What If Better Isn’t Better?
A few neglected planters, one sad chrysanthemum, and an obvious opportunity to make something beautiful. Until I started counting cars.
-
The Illusion of Control
A thousand pounds of frightened horse, every instinct wanting to contain her boiling energy, and a decision to do exactly the opposite.
-
The Utility of Covetousness
My baby demands my clam chowder, enthusiastically breaks the Tenth Commandment, and makes me reconsider something we’ve been taught to condemn.
