It was March 2012 and I was sitting in a conference in the mountains in an uncomfortable chair drawing on velour paper with a conte’ crayon while listening to the speaker named Paul. The photo I was working from was of an Idaho dude ranch horse. I had long since forgotten the horse’s name, but since the drawing was completed while listening to someone named Paul, naturally that’s what I titled the piece.
