Gateway
to the Cuyama
2018 | 8″x10″ | Private Collection |
I had entered several paintings in the Western Spirit Art Show at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum and two got into the show: Flight Risk and King of the Road. One of the privileges of getting into the show is the opportunity to submit two paintings to the miniature show and sale which takes place the opening night. Because the paintings that got into the show were in the shape of a silhouette, I decided to carry on with the theme.
The photo I chose to work from was taken last April while I was directing a video shoot on the Rock Front Ranch in California’s Cuyama Valley. Known as the Gateway to the Cuyama Valley, the Rock Front Ranch produces beef cattle, jujubes, and honey while housing peregrine and prairie falcons in the cliff it is noted for.
This painting sold the show’s opening night! The other miniature I painted for the show is Flock at San Miguel.
