Dinkey
the Donkey
2018 | 5″x7″ | Private Collection |
I painted this miniature of a little donkey named Dinkey who, unbeknownst to me at the time, made a difference in a dying woman’s life. The woman loved donkeys, but living in the middle of a big city, surrounded herself with stuffed donkeys and framed donkeys — every sort of donkey except the real thing. Her family contacted Dinkey’s owners to see if there was some way, any way, she could possibly be visited by a real, live donkey before cancer took her life.
Dinkey’s owners were all too happy to load Dinkey up and take him to see the woman. She died just days later. They felt so privileged and honored to have gotten to share Dinkey, they purchased the painting to give to the woman’s relatives as a memorial of that special day.
