Up until this point, I had only painted from photographs and had never painted a decent sunset. So I decided to tackle both issues in one painting when I couldn’t get the image from one of my dreams out of my head. I saw a southwestern scene with a cowboy roping a steer silhouetted against a brilliant, New Mexico-esque sunset. This was the result.
