Do you see what I see?

We’d been looking for cows all morning unsuccessfully and had just crossed the Eel River and started up the hill when all the dogs, except the old man of the bunch, bolted over the ridge to the left. We stopped and gave our horses a breather in case a chase was in store. The trail must have been old as we never did hear the dogs baying up any cattle and they returned shortly.
This was the second of the series of paintings from that ranch trip which I began during my first watercolor art class. Up until this point, I was entirely self taught and knew nothing about the importance of quality (expensive!) materials, transparent pigments, and stretching paper. I also began experimenting with the use of white space. This was a huge turning point in my career as an artist.
Do You See What I See? was also exhibited and sold at the Red Bluff Bull & Gelding Sale art show.
