Crossing the Eel
Mendocino County Series
2010 | 16″x20″ | Private Collection |
The night the 2010 Grand National Rodeo ended, my mom and I packed up my booth where I was selling prints of my rodeo poster and drove back to Sacramento. By the time I had finished unpacking it was 6 a.m. A few hours later, I was on the road heading to Mendocino County. It was a long, somewhat awkward ride. A friend of a friend, whom I didn’t know, was giving me a ride and I had just found out, on Facebook, that one of my best friends from college had been killed in a car accident.
I spent the next five days with the guys, hunting cows with McNab dogs from the back of the old style working type of Morgan horses. Here, Pete is crossing the Eel River. Shortly after fording the river, the dogs are going to take off as seen in Do You See What I See?
The series of paintings I did from that week was accepted into the inaugural year of the Red Bluff Bull & Gelding Sale art show where this painting sold.
