I knew two of these dogs back in college when they were just puppies. When I received their photos from my friend, I was shocked to see the gray hairs and realize how long it’s really been since I graduated and moved back to Sacramento. With this blast from the past, I first photoshopped the three dogs into one picture and then sketched their likenesses onto stretched cotton Arches watercolor paper. Layer upon layer of a limited palette of transparent watercolors finally brought the dogs to life. It took many layers to get the black dark enough.
This was the 5th painting of the week — my deadline for Alone Time, The Scout, and The Victor was Tuesday, my deadline for Kismet and this painting was Saturday.
